Plot-hole is a free daily movie game at plot-hole.com. You don't need an account to play. This page explains what the site collects, what it's used for, and what you can ask us to delete. What we collect

A player cookie. When you first visit, the site sets a cookie called ph_token containing a random ID. It has no name or email in it. It's how the site remembers your scores, streak and settings between visits. Delete the cookie and you start fresh.

Your plays. Each guess, score, streak and the day you played are stored against that ID so leaderboards, the archive and your stats work.

A display name, if you set one. If you choose a name for the leaderboards it's shown publicly next to your scores. Pick something you're happy to have public.

An email address, only if you give us one. Used for the daily reminder, the login link that moves your progress between devices, and the occasional message about the games. Every email has an unsubscribe link. We never sell or share the list.

Push notifications, only if you turn them on. Your browser gives us a subscription token so we can send the daily reminder. Turn them off in your browser settings any time.

Visit logs. Like most websites we log the IP address, browser type, referring site and time of each visit. We look up the country of the IP address for our own statistics. This is used to count real players, spot bots and keep the site up. Logs are not linked to your name or email.

Third parties

Google Analytics. We use Google Analytics 4 to see how many people visit and which pages they use. Google sets its own cookies for this. You can opt out with the Google Analytics opt-out add-on.

Advertising. Ads on the site are served by Google AdSense, and may in future be served by Mediavine. These partners use cookies and similar technology to show ads and measure them, and some ads may be personalised based on your browsing. You can control personalised ads from Google at adssettings.google.com, and learn about the choices available at aboutads.info/choices. Ad partners' own privacy policies apply to the data they collect: Google, Mediavine.

Amazon. Some movie links go to Amazon. We're an Amazon Associate and earn from qualifying purchases. Amazon's privacy policy applies once you're on their site.

Payments. If you buy a sponsorship, payment is handled by Stripe. We never see your card number.

Movie data. Posters and movie facts come from TMDB and OMDb. No data about you is sent to them.

What we don't do

• We don't sell your data.
• We don't ask for your name, birthday or location.
• We don't share your email with anyone.
• We don't knowingly collect data from children under 13. If you think a child has given us an email address, contact us and we'll remove it.

Your choices

• Start over: clear the plot-hole.com cookies in your browser.
• Stop emails: use the unsubscribe link in any email, or contact us.
• Stop push notifications: turn them off in your browser's site settings.
• Delete everything: email us with your display name or the email you used and we'll remove your plays, name, email and push subscription. Visit logs are kept for security and stats, but they aren't linked to you.
• See your data: ask and we'll send you what we hold.

If you're in the EU, UK or California, these are the same rights those laws give you: access, correction, deletion and objection. We handle every request the same way no matter where you live.

Where the data lives

The site runs on servers in North America. If you play from somewhere else, your data is transferred there.

Changes

If this policy changes we'll update the date at the top. Big changes get a note on the site.
